Chatham panel continues Wayside Inn tent permit
Other Committee · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Chatham panel delays Wayside Inn tent renewal over historic district fit. The Historic Business District Commission voted unanimously to continue, until September 2, 2026, a permit for two outdoor dining tents at the Chatham Wayside Inn, 512 Main Street, after members said the roughly 36-seat front tent "really doesn't fit in with the district." General manager Sean Linhan said the inn would consider umbrellas and a permanent awning but needed ownership's sign-off first. The board separately approved a full signage package for a new Lily Pulitzer store at 631 Main Street, conditioning one ground-sign approval on the property owner supplying a written plan to preserve a historic mosaic floor tile from a former tenant.
Commissioners also cleared 14 FEMA-mandated smart vents and relocated heat-pump equipment at the same Main Street building, and approved continued signage for Chatham House of Pizza at 75 Old Harbor Road.
