CHATHAM — The Chatham Historic Business District Commission took no vote on two contested pre-applications after residents called them oversized. Architect Matthew Ryder presented a revised Stage Harbor Marine design for 80 Bridge Street, lowering the ridge height to 29 feet 6 inches from 35 feet 9 inches and cutting workforce-housing units from five to three; resident Brian Phillips called it "by far, this is the most offensive project I have seen." Applicant Tom Kennedy pitched an 18-unit rental building at 1134 and 1142 Main Street, saying Chatham's shortage means "they're waiting for their parents to die and then they inherit the house"; commissioners and multiple residents, including George Mazervi, who calculated density at 37 units per acre, said the three-story, flat-roofed design was too large for the half-acre site. The board separately approved five routine applications unanimously, including a splash pool, solar panels and exterior repairs at six Munson Meeting Way buildings.
