Falmouth Logs Third West Nile-Positive Mosquito Sample Near Sider's Pond

FALMOUTH — Falmouth's Health Department confirmed the season's third West Nile virus positive mosquito sample after testing turned up the virus near Sider's Pond, keeping the town in the "moderate" risk category. The finding came as sewer-project crews shifted weekday road closures to Brick Kiln Road and Maravista Avenue this week.

TOWN HALL

Falmouth's Health Department said Thursday that a mosquito sample collected Aug. 10 near Sider's Pond tested positive for West Nile virus, the third confirmed case of the season. The town remains in the "moderate" risk category for the mosquito-borne illness. Falmouth Patch's Friday newsletter also flagged the finding for readers, a story the town's News Flash first reported.

Sewer-project crews are rerouting weekday traffic again this week. Brick Kiln Road will be closed between Sandwich and Oxbow roads, and Maravista Avenue will be closed between Nickerson and Randolph streets, both from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The town said updated detour maps covering additional upcoming closures will go up online during the week of Aug. 17.
