Mashpee voters approved an $83.3 million operating budget and $12 million in wastewater design borrowing at the May 5 annual and special town meetings, with key funding contingent on Saturday's Proposition 2 1/2 override ballot. Moderator John Miller presided over 463 registered voters who also authorized $11.5 million to upgrade HVAC, electrical, and fire suppression at Quashnet Intermediate School and $500,000 for the Mashpee Senior Center's HVAC system, both tied to debt-exclusion questions on Saturday's ballot. School Committee Chair Kathy Lewis warned from the microphone that a failed override would cost the district roughly $756,000 beyond an already-reduced budget, "which would equate to about six teachers." Town Manager Collins confirmed the budget reflects level services, with a separate reduced-spending column taking effect if the override fails.

Voters rejected a petition to ban fur product sales 133 to 115 and passed a dog barking bylaw 210 to 39; a Community Preservation Committee grant for the privately owned Horatio Amos House was rejected 417 to 20 after both the Select Board and Finance Committee opposed it, while a similar grant for the First Pentecostal Church of Christ passed 278 to 147.
