Town Council · Meeting of October 29, 2026
BARNSTABLE — The Barnstable Town Council Zoning and Regulatory Committee voted 3-2 against recommending a rezoning of two Centerville parcels tied to Lambert's Market, while separately voting 4-1 to advance a revised home occupation ordinance. Attorney David Lawler sought to extend HB business zoning onto 990 and 980 West Main Street, proposing a restaurant, retail and eight to ten workforce housing units. Attorney Edward Kirk, representing abutters Bonnie Leipier, John Bryant Jr. and Susan M. Sweet, called it "a classic example of spot zoning." Committee Chair Councillor Lutke said "I would never vote for this," citing the town's torturous 2018-2019 rezoning fight over the same corridor.
The home occupation ordinance, which adds a two-year license requirement and lets the Zoning Board of Appeals permit a second home business, passed 4-1 with Councillor Crocker abstaining over a conflict.
