Select Board approves reworked Pan-Mass Challenge cycling route through Bourne for Aug. 1-2.

BOURNE -- The Bourne Select Board signed off on changes to this year's Pan-Mass Challenge route during its July 21 meeting, and Bourne Youth Soccer Association has opened registration for its fall recreational program.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- The Bourne Youth Soccer Association (BYSA) began registration for its fall soccer program on July 13, according to the organization's website. BYSA runs an intra-town fall recreational program for boys and girls residing in Bourne and Joint Base Cape Cod, in addition to a spring travel program in the South Coast Soccer League. The organization encouraged families to create an online account to receive registration and schedule updates.

COMMUNITY -- The Select Board voted unanimously to amend the previously approved route for the Pan-Mass Challenge, the annual charity bike ride passing through town Aug. 1-2. Because construction has limited access to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy gym parking lot, riders will come down Academy Drive, turn right onto Tower Lane before the gym lot, then turn left onto Buccaneer Way/Tower Lane between the gym lot and the baseball field. Tower Lane between Academy Drive and the MCC, including Bay Drive, will be closed or made one-way for cyclists for the event. PMC organizers said event shuttles will be rerouted off Tower Lane and will instead pick up riders on Buttermilk Way outside the MCC campus; all other traffic on Academy Drive will continue straight through to Mass Maritime Academy. The board reaffirmed that no parking will be allowed on Taylor's Point during the event weekend and asked organizers to notify nearby property owners, potentially through a reverse-911 call, ahead of the road changes.
