Board Votes 4-1 to Halt Private Road Conversions
Select Board · Meeting of October 5, 2026
Mashpee Select Board votes 4-1 to freeze private road conversions and scale back New Seabury snowplowing. Clerk Michael Richardson cast the lone dissent on both the moratorium and a new plan deprioritizing secondary-street plowing in New Seabury, where DPW Director Catherine Laurent said roughly 90 percent of storm calls originate. The board separately raised snowplow contractor signing bonuses from $750 to $1,000 and approved updated town-facility rental fees effective January 1, 2027.
Members voted 5-0 to let the town manager sign a license agreement with the Friends of the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge for a visitor center at 475 Nathan Ellis Highway, and accepted, "with regrets," the resignation of Rosemary Burns Love from the Historical Commission. "Guess where 90% of the calls come from?" Town Manager Rodney C. Collins asked, defending the New Seabury plan.
