Bourne board splits on Sagamore Bridge land gift
Select Board · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Bourne Select Board splits 4-1 on donating land for the Sagamore Bridge. Clerk Mary Jane Mastrangelo cast the lone dissent, arguing the town should negotiate "considerations" with MassDOT rather than donate the landlocked parcel outright; residents John York and Ken Chetland urged the board to seek compensation or a rail-trail concession in return. The board also voted unanimously to assess a $602,250 betterment for Pocasset Woods road work and to recommend a reduced $150,000 capital request for 70 new police pistols with red-dot sights.
Town Administrator Marlene McCollem scored 3.18 out of 4 on her annual review. Mastrangelo flagged that roughly 20 Wareham students were wrongly billed to Bourne on a prior Upper Cape Cod Technical School assessment list, calling it "a significant amount of money" the town is still investigating. The board tabled McCollem's annual goals after Vice Chair Anne-Marie Siroonian and McCollem raised concerns about her workload without an assistant.
