Select Board Creates Year-Round Beach Director Track

Select Board · Meeting of September 28, 2026

Falmouth Select Board votes to create a year-round beach director position after years of thin off-season oversight. The board unanimously approved a transitional Assistant Recreation Director for Beaches post this year, with a full director role planned for fiscal year 2028, nearly doubling annual staffing costs from about $70,000 to roughly $140,000. Assistant Town Manager Peter Johnson Staub called the phased approach "a little messy" but necessary given a seasonal workforce that has grown to 150 employees.

The board also appointed engineer Joel Kubic to the Board of Health over three other applicants, accepted a Falmouth Housing Trust-built road as a public way, and heard that a Lawrence School renovation could eventually cost up to $150 million, with MSBA reimbursement offsetting $55 million to $60 million. Resident Richard Dubie used public comment to press the board over an undisclosed deed restriction at the planned $70 million Brick Kiln Road police station site. The board also discussed, but did not vote on, a possible land swap near a proposed affordable-housing development off Nathan Ellis Highway.
