Board Presses Owner Over Unauthorized Pond Deck

Conservation · Meeting of September 29, 2026

Barnstable conservation panel presses pond-deck owner for more mitigation before ruling on violation. The Conservation Commission continued a hearing on an unpermitted deck built near Parker Pond on Eel River Road in Osterville, with commissioners Bill Hearn and John Abedeli pushing for additional native plantings and clearer terms on removing three damaged trees before ratifying the enforcement case. Engineer John O'Day said roughly 1,860 square feet of mitigation planting is required, with about 900 square feet still needed.

Commissioners also voted 7-0 to approve renovating the former IHOP at The Landing at Hyannis into a new restaurant, calling it "as straightforward as it gets," and closed a hearing authorizing a Long Pond-area municipal sewer connection under state file SE3-6416. Five other applications were continued to October 13 and October 20. The panel adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
