Barnstable Town Council approved a $2.275 million state grant for Hyannis's East End Main Street streetscape.
Town Council · Meeting of October 15, 2026
Barnstable Town Council approved a $2.275 million state grant for Hyannis's East End Main Street streetscape. Jim Kupfer, Director of Planning and Development, said the Housing Works Infrastructure Grant requires no local match and must be spent within roughly two to three years on sidewalks, ADA work, lighting and trees between Center and Camp streets; he called the area "sorely in need of an upgrade." The council also voted 10-0 on a $25,000 state-reimbursed Millway boat ramp repaving, approved three state 911 grants including $270,000 for dispatch staffing, and dissolved five inactive committees over one dissent. Town Manager Mark Ellis presented a draft voluntary payment-in-lieu-of-taxes program for nonprofits, and councilors reached consensus to let him proceed.
