Harwich Planning Board Adopts Comprehensive Plan, Sends It to Town Meeting

HARWICH — March 10, 2026 — Harwich Planning Board unanimously adopts the town's first updated comprehensive land use plan in roughly 25 years and recommends it for a May town meeting vote. The board passed two motions Tuesday — one to formally adopt the final draft 2025 Local Comprehensive Plan with minor edits still pending from consultants, and a second to send it to the annual town meeting in May 2026 — both unanimously. Local Planning Committee member Mary Jones presented the roughly 200-page document, which emerged from three years of surveys, workshops, and public outreach organized around land use, housing, environmental protection, and community infrastructure. Town Planner Christine Flynn said the board will play a lead role in tracking implementation. Harwich Center resident Matt Sutin urged the board to produce simplified materials for town meeting voters, saying the full document was too dense for most residents to "assimilate well enough to make an informed decision."
