Nauset School Committee Approves 2026-27 Program of Studies Unanimously

ORLEANS — January 14, 2026 — Nauset Regional School Committee approves 2026-27 high school program of studies and names strategic plan consultant. The committee, meeting January 14 at Nauset Middle School, voted unanimously to adopt the program of studies for the coming school year, with Principal Pat Clark confirming 30 students are dual-enrolled at Cape Cod Community College — roughly 22 full time and 8 in single courses — and that the district pays a flat $26,000 annual fee for Edgenuity online course access. At least one member raised concerns about a gap in the U.S. history sequence, saying "I find it troubling that there are kids that graduate from school and have never studied the Civil War since they were in fifth grade." The committee also voted unanimously to approve a state-required middle school pathway policy ahead of a February 1 upload deadline and to accept December 2025 warrants of $5,028,270.56. Athletic Trainer Michelle Pavlou, who was recently named athletic trainer of the year by the Eastern Athletic Trainers Association's secondary school committee, told the board that 460 of the school's approximately 750 students participated in at least one sport last year, and outlined a future goal of acquiring diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound capability — handheld units now run approximately $12,000 — to speed on-campus injury diagnosis. The Teaching and Learning Alliance, whose facilitator previously served as superintendent of Sandwich Public Schools and has worked with Dartmouth, Plymouth, and Canton school districts, was named to guide the district's next strategic plan, with monthly sessions beginning January 27.
