ORLEANS — March 17, 2026 — Orleans Conservation Commission clears two shoreline permits and hears first detailed briefing on proposed coastal flood regulations. The seven-member commission voted unanimously — seven times across nine agenda items — at its March 17 meeting, approving repairs to a shed and platform at 26 Jack Knife Point Road with a contractor change clause, a multi-element construction project at 17 Pilgrim Lake Terrace East that reduced parking and added 1,226 square feet of environmental mitigation, and like-for-like pool repairs at 82 Lake Drive. The session's longest discussion centered on draft coastal resiliency regulations presented by the Cape Cod Commission's Heather McElroy, Shannon Hulst of the Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, and Carole Ridley of the Pleasant Bay Alliance; the regulations would apply within FEMA-mapped flood zones and include a prohibition on all new construction in the highest-hazard velocity zone.
