Orleans Cultural Council to Decide Student Art Show Future Before March Meeting

ORLEANS — February 2, 2026 — Orleans Cultural Council tables art show decision until March, eyes cross-committee collaboration. The council, chaired by Brian Smith, met February 2 and spent the majority of its session on two fronts: whether and how to run its annual student art show, and how to position itself within a broader town collaboration effort. Treasurer Heather Morin confirmed that a request to raise the council's annual town appropriation from $2,000 to $3,000 had been submitted to Town Administrator Tom DeSiervo, who acknowledged receipt ahead of the March warrant deadline. Secretary Ellen Snyder-Grenier outlined the considerable labor the art show requires — registration, labeling, installation, and deinstallation of student work from three schools — noting that Town Hall's hanging system "is really made for framed artwork, not for the kinds of things that kids produce."
