Yarmouth Board of Health Caps Individual Grant Awards at $20,000, Defers Final Vote

Yarmouth Board of Health hears 17 nonprofit grant requests totaling over $142,000 against a $60,000 pool, deferring final votes to its next meeting. Housing Assistance Corporation reported its homeless caseload has more than doubled in four years, from 220 to 550 individuals, with 60 percent of those now over age 60. The board informally capped any individual member's recommendation for a single organization at that organization's request amount, with $20,000 as the overall ceiling; all five members were asked to submit scores before the next meeting, where final allocations will be voted on.
