Zoning Board · Meeting of October 28, 2026

Harwich's Zoning Board of Appeals continued a contested hearing on a second-story addition at 8 Essex Place to Dec. 9, after neighbors warned construction trucks and a dumpster could block emergency vehicles on the narrow private road. Owner Scott Daly's representative proposed a 29.3-foot, two-and-a-half-story addition cutting building coverage from 41.7 percent to 35.6 percent, but abutter Dan McDonough said "the street is extremely narrow" and recalled an ambulance that couldn't reach a medical emergency last summer. Chair Brian Salt said he wanted a written construction logistics plan before voting.

The board also voted unanimously, 5-0, on four other cases, including a variance cutting the Edmunds Lane front setback to 20.6 feet for trustee Paula Waller's porch addition and a special permit letting the Anderson family convert a Bank Street garage into a 606-square-foot accessory dwelling unit.
