Assessors release FY27 preliminary property values for Truro
TRURO — Truro's Board of Assessors has released preliminary FY27 property values as part of a statutorily required revaluation, while the Town Moderator announced new appointments to the Finance Committee and applications remain open for a committee overseeing the Walsh Property.

The Board of Assessors announced Thursday evening that FY27 preliminary values are now available as the town completes its state-mandated certification process. Under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 40, Section 56, the board must certify full and fair cash value, a revaluation and re-certification exercise required by statute every five years.
Town Moderator Cass Johnson — herself among the appointees — announced this week that Cass Johnson and Clint Kershaw have been appointed to the Finance Committee for three-year terms expiring June 30, 2029.
Separately, the town is seeking candidates for the Walsh Property Advisory Committee, which has five voting-member vacancies and two alternate positions with staggered terms. A revised committee charge is expected to be posted in mid-July, and applications are due by 4 p.m. on July 22. The Select Board is also set to hold a hybrid public hearing on July 28 at 5 p.m. to establish its FY27 goals and objectives and review the prior year's accomplishments. In related regional news, Barnstable County is sharing information about a proposed Charter Study Commission that will appear as a ballot question on the November 2026 state election ballot, including candidate requirements and filing deadlines for interested residents.
The town is also updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan, which will guide priorities for the next decade. Residents can share ideas through a community forum, by emailing pio@truro-ma.gov, or by visiting the town's dedicated plan webpage.

The Truro Public Library's StoryWalk® installation, "Poo-Dunit? A Forest Floor Mystery," wraps up its run today, July 17, giving families a last chance to walk the outdoor story trail. The library also highlighted its "Plant a Seed, Read" program, supported by the Friends of the Truro Library, and a current art exhibit, "Art in the Anne H. Brock Room," featuring work from The Truro Group.
The library's Board of Trustees meets today, and several events are on the near-term calendar, including a talk on Prohibition-era Cape Cod, a mahjong session, and a children's community garden group next week.

The Board of Library Trustees meets Friday, July 17. The Board of Registrars meets Monday, July 20. The library hosts Mahjong, the Children's Community Garden Group, and "Prohibition on Cape Cod with Don Wilding" on Tuesday, July 21, followed by the Stay Strong Cancer Support Group and a Robert the Guitar Guy performance on Wednesday, July 22. Applications for the Walsh Property Advisory Committee are due July 22 at 4 p.m., and the Select Board holds a hybrid public hearing on FY27 goals and objectives on July 28 at 5 p.m.
