Barnstable Board of Health splits 4-1 on hotel grease trap, flags a gap in tattoo licensing rules. The board approved a nitrogen-reducing septic upgrade for the Helen H. Hughes estate at 46 Great Bay Road in Osterville and granted Cape Cod Hotel Holiday Inn Express owners Jay and Gary Patel a grease-trap variance by a 4-1 vote, tied to their ownership only.
Members corrected the record to show Dr. Caniff voted against a nine-month sewer extension for Centerville's Mark Schuberti, who has paid $1,900 toward his neighborhood's sewer assessment. A Cotuit request to add a fourth bedroom in a saltwater estuary district was tabled to September 29 after a member said, "I don't remember that we approved a four-bedroom" under similar nitrogen conditions.
Separately, the board found its body art rules never addressed foreign work experience, after a Lash Boutique technician sought a solo license using a Russian employer's verification letter, calling it "an oversight in our qualifications."
