Brewster School Committee Elects Jacobus Chair, Votes on Policies and Audit at Reorganization Meeting

BREWSTER — June 11, 2026 — Brewster School Committee elects new chair and vice chair at annual reorganization, hears enrollment decline warning. The committee unanimously elected Katie Jacobus as chair and Maria Nocte as vice chair at its June 11 reorganization meeting, with Nocte also filling the contract-negotiations seat vacated by longtime member Judy Luck. Jacobus flagged a consultant's finding that Brewster faces a projected 12 percent decline in student population over the next 10 years — a steeper drop than any of the other three Nauset district towns — and that just 76 percent of school-age children in the region attend Nauset public schools. New Director of Finance and Operations Beth Regalbuto, on day nine in her role, reported that Eddy Elementary carries a pre-offset deficit of approximately $51,106 and Stony Brook a smaller shortfall, both expected to be absorbed by circuit breaker reimbursements before the June 30 close. The committee also voted to accept policy sections IJKL on final reading and accepted three financial items totaling $1,321.36, including an $8.86 class action settlement from Peterson Oil.
