Eastham Conservation Commission Sends Herring Pond Alum Application Back for Major Revisions

Eastham Conservation Commission rejects a town-backed Herring Pond alum application as too incomplete to review. Chair Karen Strauss told retired wetland scientist Mickey Marcus — who prepared the filing at no cost to the town — that the WPA Form 3 was incomplete, resource-area checkboxes were unchecked, and the application failed to describe what an alum treatment is, how the Generic Environmental Impact Report applied, or why alum was chosen over alternatives. The $193,000 Community Preservation Act-funded project was approved at Town Meeting 315 to 37 but cannot advance until a substantially revised filing is submitted.

"The more I looked at it, the less I liked the NOI filing," Strauss said. The commission continued the hearing to August 25. In other action, the commission unanimously approved Notices of Intent for pool and renovation projects at 20 Bridge Road (Petricca) and 30 Cedar Lane (Milsky), ratified three emergency certifications authorizing dolphin carcass removal from 165 Harm's Way, 245 Harm's Way, and 45 Long Street Lane, and deferred action on a proposed land donation at 0 Old Orchard Road pending receipt of deed conditions.
