Eastham Finance Committee approves $296,070 in end-of-year transfers, 9-0

EASTHAM — June 25, 2026 — Eastham Finance Committee votes 9-0 twice to move $296,070 in year-end funds. The committee approved a $183,070 draw from its $200,000 reserve fund at its June 25 meeting, covering snow and ice removal costs from the winter blizzard, demolition of a Brownell Road structure, and a recurring budgeting shortfall in the town's hazardous household waste program; a separate 9-0 vote transferred $113,000 from the health insurance line to cover Nauset district special education overruns at the elementary school level, a move requiring concurrent Select Board approval. Finance Director Rich, attending by video, noted that any unused portion of all transfers would revert to free cash by the July 15 fiscal close, and flagged that the $200,000 reserve may need to be raised given only $16,930 remains. In capital project news, a committee member reported that early wastewater construction bids came in $23 million to $27 million below the project budget, with general contractor Waterline Industries selected and all contracts expected to be signed before the June 30 deadline. The meeting concluded with the committee recognizing the departure of Chair Mary Shaw, to whom members presented a gift certificate and described as "the hardest working chairperson in the town."
