HARWICH — The Harwich Recreation and Youth Commission approved an $8,712.50 discounted fee for the Cape Cod Senior Softball League's 2026 season but took no funding vote on a dugout replacement project already estimated above $16,000. Recreation Director Neil said two men were hospitalized last year for heat exhaustion in the aging Potter Field dugouts, which Cape Cod Regional Technical High School carpentry instructors Kern Stockwell and Steve Mullen have offered to help rebuild with student labor. Member John said, "I'm concerned we don't have a final number," questioning both the cost estimate and the funding source.

Separately, members could not agree on why a budget report showed $305,137 "available" against a stated $400,000 revolving-fund cap, prompting a request for a line-item breakdown of roughly $94,000 already spent, mostly on seasonal staffing. The commission's November meeting was moved to November 17 to avoid Thanksgiving week, with no meeting scheduled in December.
