Harwich Treasure Chest Bans Dogs, Sets 2:30 Drop-Off Cutoff for Weekends

HARWICH — March 4, 2026 — Harwich's Treasure Chest Volunteer Committee voted to cut weekend donation drop-offs at 2:30 p.m. and ban dogs from the transfer-station reuse facility. The committee, which oversees the volunteer-run thrift operation at the Harwich DPW transfer station, passed both measures unanimously at its March 4 meeting after members said a DPW manager identified as Link confirmed the group could operate autonomously on such decisions. Members also formally retired the name of late chair George Forest and paid tribute to two other recently deceased longtime volunteers. A member identified as Mary was affirmed as acting chair on a continuing basis, with a note that the role could rotate. The committee set its next meeting for April 29 at 5 p.m., when members plan to decide whether to add Friday hours for the summer season.
