Harwich Golf Committee advances plan to install tee inserts in compressed driving range mats at Cranberry Valley Golf Course. The committee, meeting July 21 without its newest member Paul Kelly, heard from the course director — referred to in the meeting as Roman — that the existing mat tee surface has become so compacted it no longer accepts a standard golf tee, a complaint the committee said it hears frequently. The planned fix involves pressure washing and refurbishing the mats for under $1,000, then cutting flush tee slots using "rangefound" inserts, with a vendor visit targeted for August or September.

The director also reported that all revenue categories exceeded historical targets for the fiscal year just closed, with annual pass revenue up following rate increases of $50 for residents and $100 for non-residents. A junior golf day earlier in July drew approximately 200 young players across three programs, including a Drive, Chip and Putt qualifier that drew 105 participants — the largest ever at the site — which the New England PGA called the best qualifier it administers. Cranberry Valley will host the Northeast PGA Junior League Regionals in September.
