Harwich Youth Commission backs reduced $197,000 irrigation fix and hears from new parks director. The commission agreed Monday to proceed with a $197,000 Community Preservation Committee appropriation for irrigation replacement at the White House Field complex, down from an originally intended $350,000 figure after a clerical error in the Parks and Recreation office reduced the amount submitted for town meeting. The new Director of Parks and Recreation, who gave his name only as Jay, appeared before the commission to introduce himself, apologize for the filing error, and say he would sit on the interview panel for a permanent recreation director hire.

Interim Director Jen Anderson reported approximately 25 to 30 beach staff identified for summer, against a daily deployment goal of roughly 20 lifeguards, with at least one parking enforcement position still unfilled. The commission also tabled a long-running debate over unauthorized vehicle access to White House Field to a May agenda, with one member noting the problem has gone unresolved for 27 years.
