Mashpee Select Board Suspends Route 130 Roundabout, Revamps Shellfish Rules

Mashpee Select Board votes unanimously to suspend a roundabout proposal at Great Neck Road North and Route 130. Town Manager Rodney C. Collins told the board Tuesday he did not think it prudent to spend further funds on the project given the volume of concerns raised, and the board authorized suspension on a unanimous vote.

The board also approved revised shellfish regulations — raising the residential family permit from $25 to $35 and the commercial permit from $125 to $250 to match Cape and Islands averages — with an amendment to define poaching. A Housing Authority vacancy was tabled after Collins determined the position had never been publicly posted as required under Chapter 121B and Chapter 41; a joint Select Board and Housing Authority meeting is now set for January 26, with the vacancy to be posted through the Town Clerk's Office by January 14. In a late town manager update, Collins read a DPW memo recommending the town allow the October 2025 town meeting acceptance of Godfrey and Barbary Circle to lapse, after engineers discovered that all neighborhood properties have private wells requiring 100-foot stormwater setbacks that cannot be met — a fix involving town water installation could cost each property owner up to $30,000 in betterments.
