Falmouth board rejects fifth-bedroom sewer variance in 4-0 vote

Falmouth Select Board rejects fifth bedroom for converted commercial property, 4-0. Board members sided with Wastewater Superintendent Amy Lowell, who recommended against the flow neutral bylaw variance for 6 Falmouth Heights Road, warning it could invite similar requests from more than 1,000 other sewer-connected properties. Member Elizabeth Klein said she'd been swayed by residents' "stress and anxiety" over nitrogen and wastewater capacity.
Separately, Water Superintendent Matt Lanen told the board Long Pond has dropped nearly three feet since 2020, to 3.85 feet above its intake, as the town nears its 4.31-million-gallon daily pumping limit; the town pumped nearly 1.4 billion gallons in 2025. The board also tabled a surveillance-camera policy after Police Chief Laurie said he has "no desire" to deploy Flock-brand license plate readers, and approved $24,400 for regional affordable-housing monitoring and a flood-sensor installation at the Salt Pond Channel culvert.
