Orleans climate panel unanimously backs letter demanding a truly net-zero fire rescue station. The Energy and Climate Action Committee voted to send the Select Board a letter defining net zero as producing as much renewable energy as the building consumes, not a partial fix. Chair John's analysis found the current 11,510-square-foot station costs about $35,000 a year to run, while a larger modern replacement could cost $73,000 to $102,000 annually without solar, dropping to $25,000 to $34,000 with a full solar array.

Assistant Town Manager Mark Rael said the roadmap contract with Kim Lundgren Associates, budgeted at $50,000, came in at $49,950, and that "it's going to really be honed in on actions, even down to the neighborhood level." Members cited the fire station's overall cost at $57 million to $62 million and warned that a six-month financing delay would add roughly $1.5 million.
