Orleans COA Votes To Launch Senior Needs Assessment
Council on Aging · Meeting of August 26, 2026
Orleans Council on Aging to shut most senior center programs for three weeks in October for roof and sprinkler repairs. Director Judi Wilson told the board the closure will include removing and reinstalling rooftop solar panels during a roof replacement, plus sprinkler repairs above the meeting room and possible kitchen appliance work, while transportation, supportive daycare and respite programs continue. The board voted unanimously to have Wilson arrange a presentation from the UMass Boston Gerontology Center on a formal community needs assessment.
Separately, board member Susan pushed through a vote, rather than tabling to next month, urging the town to prioritize finalizing the council's long-sought assistant director position, calling it unresolved after more than a year despite a town meeting-approved override. Wilson said the department is also contending with a fourth resignation in four years in its supportive daycare program and the loss of multiple fitness instructors to workforce shortages.
