Orleans Community Preservation Committee reports $1.13 million balance, opens fight over funding preference. Town Accountant Cedric Sousa said the fund grew roughly 6 percent to $1.13 million through April, with $1.4 million collected in fiscal 2026 surcharge revenue. The panel approved $5,000 for historic consultant legal services and $5,000 for its Community Preservation Coalition membership.

Historical Commission chair Ed Marcarelli defended a $15,000 public awareness grant, less than the $25,000 requested, saying the commission "really neglected" outreach in recent years. Northwest Schoolhouse representative Bill Wardell said its long-delayed kitchen renovation, which has drawn close to $700,000 in committee funding, should finish by late June. Members split over a draft policy giving preference to town-sponsored projects for out-of-cycle funding, with no vote taken and a revision expected in July.
