Orleans Finance Committee Votes 8-0 to Approve $24,403 in Year-End Reserve Fund Transfers
Finance Committee · Meeting of July 9, 2026
Orleans Finance Committee approves $24,403 in year-end Reserve Fund transfers, 8-0. Meeting Thursday in the Nauset Room at Town Hall, the committee voted unanimously by roll call to approve two fiscal year-end transfers from the Reserve Fund: $23,403 for Veterans' Benefits and $1,000 for Police salaries, reducing the fund balance from $71,800 to $47,397. Chair Elaine Baird explained that salary overages stemmed from collective bargaining agreements finalized after the FY26 budget was set.
The Finance Director noted that departmental surpluses were tapped before the Reserve Fund was touched, and agreed to report back on whether the town's health insurance plan is experience rated after members questioned a surplus in the Group Insurance account. The committee also approved minutes from its May 11 and June 11 meetings, both 8-0.
