Orleans Panel Approves 20-Unit Canal Road Building, 5-0
Other Committee · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Orleans panel clears 20-unit workforce housing plan for former Seashore Park Inn, 5-0. The Site Plan Review Committee approved, with six conditions, a new 20-unit building at 24 Canal Road, scaling back an earlier plan that also would have renovated the property's defunct indoor pool. Attorney Jamie Norcross, representing owner Michael Kennedy, said the revised plan shows 66 parking spaces, calling the committee "very, very, very confident we have more than enough parking." A health department official flagged that unit kitchenettes lack a documented oven, saying she has "some concern about the kitchenettes" under the state housing code; a fire department representative said emergency access "is not a problem as long as there's not parked cars." The project next needs Zoning Board of Appeals relief from a 15-unit-per-building cap.
Separate minutes votes passed 4-0, with one abstention each.
