Orleans panel says it was bypassed on fire station design

Other Committee · Meeting of September 10, 2026

Orleans's architectural review panel says it was shut out of early fire station design decisions. Chair Kelly McCarthy told members she contacted the town's planning office after learning the panel lacked a formal process to preview the new fire station's design before the Select Board weighed in on materials and colors, comparing it to how the police station bypassed the board entirely. Member Richard Morinja said he separately wrote the Zoning Board of Appeals urging no waivers be granted on the nearby Governor Prince project until updated drawings get full review; that project now carries just three waivers, down from an earlier round, with a height variance of 38 feet against a 36-foot limit heading to a September 23 vote.

The board also approved signage and lighting for Cape Cod Nail Company and a 20-unit employee-housing addition at Seashore Park Inn's 24 Canal Road property, which houses Chatham Bar Inn workers under a five-year lease.
