Orleans water panel backs $2.7 million sewer design and Cedar Pond land buy ahead of Town Meeting. The Marine and Freshwater Quality Committee voted 7-0 to support five Annual Town Meeting warrant articles, including $175,000 in Community Preservation Act funds toward a 3.7-acre Orleans Conservation Trust purchase abutting Cedar Pond and $45,000 for a Mill Pond water-quality project. The Select Board backed the Cedar Pond purchase 4-0 and the Finance Committee 9-0, though the Finance Committee split on the $2.7 million sewer phase four design article, with two no votes and one abstention.

Wastewater committee liaison Bob Mullen said townwide drought restrictions, for the first time extending to private wells, begin May 1 and run through Dec. 31: "the public and private wells rely on the same aquifer." Rich Levy reported herring counts running "extremely low" this spring, while Mary Griffin said Cedar Pond monitoring data looked "discouraging" compared with a strong showing at Crystal Lake. Town Meeting is May 11.
