Sandwich Charter Now Final After State Sign-Off
SANDWICH — Sandwich's rewritten Town Charter has been finalized after winning approval from the Massachusetts Legislature and the governor, the town announced, closing out a review process that reshapes how the town government operates. The move comes as the town also confirmed re-accreditation for its police department and posted official results from May's Annual Town Meeting and Town Election.

The Town of Sandwich says its updated Town Charter is now finalized following sign-off from the state Legislature and the governor, with the full document posted to the town website. Separately, the town confirmed the Sandwich Police Department has again earned re-accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. Official results from the May 4 Annual Town Meeting and the May 7 Annual Town Election are also now posted, and the town thanked residents who took part.
On infrastructure, resurfacing work on Highfield Drive is set to begin Monday, July 20, with work hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and periodic delays to home access; a similar resurfacing project on Christopher Hollow Road and nearby roadways has been underway since July 8. The Department of Public Works and Police Department are also promoting the "Slow Down – In Our Town" safety campaign as Sandwich prepares for a week of America 250 celebrations and the peak of summer tourist season. The town additionally reminded residents that 2026 beach stickers are on sale online and at the Tax Collector's Office at Town Hall, and it issued guidance on septic system upkeep and stormwater-friendly lawn care ahead of summer.

The Sandwich Summer Craft Festival is underway this weekend, running Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19, according to the town's events calendar.
COMING UP
Several town boards meet in the coming days: the Sandwich Bikeways & Pedestrian Committee on Monday, July 20; a Commission on Disability Subcommittee meeting Tuesday, July 21; and the Sandwich Housing Authority on Wednesday, July 22. MassDOT is hosting a public meeting Thursday, July 23, on the Sagamore Bridge Replacement project.
On the culture side, the Sandwich Town Band's Summer Concert Series continues Thursday, July 23, and the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce hosts the 1st Mill Creek Rubber Ducky Derby on Friday, July 24.
