Yarmouth lands $25 million federal grant for Route 28 upgrades

YARMOUTH — The Town of Yarmouth has been awarded a $25 million federal BUILD grant to help fund major improvements to Route 28, the town's largest infrastructure news of the week, while a beach water quality advisory affecting Wing Groves Beach/Long Pond has been lifted after clean test results.

The Town of Yarmouth announced it has been awarded a $25 million federal BUILD grant for the Yarmouth–Barnstable Route 28 Improvements Project, a corridor overhaul with an estimated total project cost of $62,413,490. The award marks a significant step toward funding one of the town's largest roadway upgrades in recent years.

Separately, the town lifted a water quality advisory for Wing Groves Beach/Long Pond that had been in place since July 9. Updated testing on July 15 came back negative for cyanobacteria, clearing the beach for normal use.

The town also continues to operate under a Level 2 "Significant Drought" designation for Cape Cod, as declared by the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force in late June, and repairs to the Bass Hole/Gray's Beach Boardwalk are expected to wrap up by the end of the month. COMING UP

The Select Board holds a Goals Setting Workshop on July 18, followed by a regular Select Board meeting on July 21. The Board of Health and the Community and Economic Development Committee both meet July 20, the Affordable Housing Trust meets July 21, and the Zoning Board of Appeals meets July 23.
