Yarmouth Zoning Board Unanimously Approves First Boat-Parking Special Permit

Yarmouth's Zoning Board of Appeals granted its first-ever boat-parking special permit under a newly enacted bylaw provision, voting 5-0 at its July 9 meeting. The permit went to Alden B. Charles IV of 354 Forest Road, South Yarmouth, who sought permission to park a 24-foot boat and trailer in front of his garage in an R40 district, citing a septic system in the front yard, trees on both sides, utility lines, and a rear gully as physical barriers to any alternative location.

Chair Sean Igoe called it "the maiden voyage" for the board under Section 401.1.1.2, and the five conditions attached to the permit — including a 28-foot boat-length cap, a registered-trailer requirement, and expiration upon property transfer — will serve as a standing template for all future petitions. No abutters filed written objections, and no one appeared in person or online to oppose the request. The board also unanimously approved its June 25 minutes before adjourning.
