Bourne Opens Cooling Center, Closes Patuisset Beach Ahead of July Fourth Weekend
DATELINE — BOURNE
A heat advisory has prompted the town to open a cooling center at the Bourne Police Department through the July Fourth holiday weekend, while Patuisset Beach remains closed to swimmers — a double public-safety notice heading into one of the busiest weeks of the summer.

With temperatures climbing, the town has activated a cooling center at the Bourne Police Department, 35 Armory Rd. The center is open June 30 through July 2 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and July 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents who need relief from the heat are encouraged to use the facility.
Patuisset Beach is separately under a temporary closure, with swimming and all water activities prohibited until further notice. No timeline for reopening was provided in the town's announcement.
Drivers on the Bourne side roads should also note a permanent traffic change that took effect June 29: the intersection of Barlows Landing Road and Shore Road is now a four-way stop. The change was made to improve safety at that crossing.
Town Hall will be closed July 3 in observance of Independence Day. The town noted that the closure will have no impact on curbside pickup schedules.

The Jonathan Bourne Public Library is open through the week but closed Friday, July 4. The Community Needs Assessment Survey for residents 60 and older remains open through July 1.
