Falmouth Conservation Commission approves nine permits, two amended orders

Conservation Commission · Meeting of August 5, 2026

Falmouth Conservation Commission clears a 20-item docket, presses staff on outdated flood maps. The board issued negative determinations on six routine construction requests and closed three substantive notice-of-intent hearings, including a Captains Lane rebuild where engineer Michael Beckerle agreed to raise a mitigation planting ratio from two-to-one to three-to-one after staff reclassified the property's coastal bank. Conservation Agent Alissa Bergeron told commissioners she opposed a proposed cobble edging on a Childs River Road salt marsh restoration, warning it "conflicts with the idea of using a soft solution first." Chair William Duffy pressed staff on when Falmouth's wetland regulations will incorporate newer FEMA flood-zone designations, the Limit of Moderate Wave Action line and Coastal A zone, that several projects reviewed that night already fall within.

Commissioners also continued five hearings, including two enforcement matters, and approved orders of conditions for projects on Childs River Road and Surrey Lane plus an amended order extending a Squibnockett Drive property owner's compliance deadline from October to April 30.
