Harwich Bikeways Committee Names Ferry Acting Chair, Siegel Vice Chair

HARWICH — May 19, 2026 — Harwich Bikeways Committee installs new acting chair and vice chair as longtime leaders step away. The committee, meeting Tuesday with four members present, voted unanimously to designate Alan Ferry as acting chair following the departure of former Chair Fran after approximately 12 years of service, and appointed Richard Siegel as vice chair by a 4-0 vote. Fred Rice was tapped as recording secretary. The committee has at least two open seats and is recruiting through Facebook outreach, the Harwich Newcomers Club, and a targeted email list drawn from Tour de Barnstable registrants. Siegel is in talks with Cape Cod Chronicle editor Tim Wood about placing a committee-written summer article explaining Harwich's status as the only Cape Cod town with two dedicated off-road bike paths and a bicycle rotary. A nine-year member also announced at the meeting that he would not seek reappointment. The committee's next meeting is tentatively set for June 16 at 1 p.m., when members plan to take up a proposed revision to the committee's 1995 charge document.
