Highfield Drive resurfacing begins as Sandwich preps for America 250 week

Road crews began resurfacing Highfield Drive this week as the town simultaneously rolled out a public-safety push ahead of a busy stretch of summer events, including America 250 celebrations. The Conservation Commission is also seeking a new volunteer to help oversee the town's wetlands and open space.

Resurfacing of Highfield Drive got underway Monday, July 20, with work crews on site 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The town says access to homes in the area may be periodically delayed during work hours but will be fully restored by the end of each workday. It follows a similar resurfacing project on Christopher Hollow Road and nearby streets that began earlier this month.
The Department of Public Works and the Sandwich Police Department relaunched their "Slow Down – In Our Town" safety campaign this week as the town prepares to welcome residents and visitors for a week of America 250 celebrations and the height of the summer season.
Separately, the town is looking to fill an Alternate/Associate Member seat on the Conservation Commission, a volunteer post that helps oversee protection of the town's wetlands, open spaces and other natural resources. Residents interested in applying are asked to fill out a Talent Bank Form. And with the season underway, the Tax Collector's Office reminds residents that 2026 Sandwich Beach Stickers remain available for purchase online or in person at Town Hall.

The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce hosts the first Mill Creek Rubber Ducky Derby on Friday, July 24. The Sandwich Town Band's Summer Concert Series continues Thursday, July 23, with an additional performance set for Thursday, July 30.

The Sandwich Housing Authority meets Wednesday, July 22. The Select Board and the North Sagamore Water District both meet Thursday, July 23, the same day MassDOT holds a public meeting on the Sagamore Bridge Replacement project. The Historic District Committee meets Monday, July 27.
