Library's summer film and storytime lineup headlines quiet week in Yarmouth

YARMOUTH — The Merrill Memorial Library's summer slate of family and film programming anchors a quiet stretch in town, with the Select Board's regular spotlight update and a string of upcoming August meetings the primary items of note from Town Hall.

TOWN HALL

The town's most recent Select Board Spotlight, dated July 21, offers residents a summary of recent board actions and updates, continuing the board's practice of regular public recaps following its meetings. Town Hall's online calendar also shows several municipal meetings scheduled for the first half of August, including the Public Art Committee and Board of Health on August 3, the Planning Board on August 5, and the Community Housing Committee and Old King's Highway Historic District Committee on August 10.

Separately, the town continues to track two ongoing environmental items: a water quality advisory issued July 9 for Wing Pond/Long Pond, which was updated July 15 after testing came back negative for cyanobacteria, and a Level 2 "Significant Drought" designation for Cape Cod announced by the Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force in late June, which remains in effect.

COMMUNITY & ARTS

The Merrill Memorial Library kicks off a busy week of programming Tuesday, July 29, with the Merrill Film Society screening "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The following morning, July 30, the library hosts its weekly Summer Storytime for all ages from 10:15 to 11 a.m.

Looking into early August, the library has scheduled a Monday Matinee showing of "Galaxy Quest" on August 3, a "Make A Snake Stuffie" craft program for kids on August 4, a teen "Shhh… Quiet Reading Group" also on August 4, and a "Dino Family Trivia" night on August 5. The library is also running its Adult Summer Reading Bingo program for Yarmouth residents, with raffle entries for every four boxes completed, and is currently hiring for a full-time children's librarian position.
