Orleans Architectural Review Committee approves solar panels and reorganizes leadership. The committee voted unanimously at its July 9 meeting to approve a 31-panel, all-black rooftop solar installation at 20 West Road, the building now occupied by Tansy Spaulding, presented by Abe Boyle of My Generation Energy. The 440-watt panels will be mounted on the building's south-facing front slopes with conduit routed through an interior attic; the flat roof was ruled out due to HVAC shading and obstructions.

An extended informal discussion centered on a comprehensive permit project — involving Habitat for Humanity and other partners — currently before the Zoning Board of Appeals, with members concluding the committee has no formal standing to require design changes because Orleans has surpassed the state's 10 percent affordable-housing threshold. "Nobody said anything about money — how much more it's going to cost," one member said of the cost objections raised at a prior ZBA session.
