Orleans water panel reorganizes, revisits Brewster pond cost-share
Other Committee · Meeting of July 27, 2026
Orleans Marine and Freshwater Quality Committee reorganizes, presses Brewster on pond costs. Chair Carolyn Audi was reappointed alongside Vice Chair Rich Levy and Clerk Bob Mullen in a unanimous 7-0 roll call, and the panel welcomed Mary Wright as its new Select Board liaison. Member Ed Hafner argued Brewster should pay roughly "20 percent" of Baker's Pond alum treatment costs since two of 10 contributing septic systems sit on the Brewster side, but colleagues said the deal is essentially final and voted against sending a letter now.
The Health Department reported Boland Pond's cyanobacteria reading hit 1,220 against the town's 500 threshold on July 8 before clearing by July 22. Sewer phase two is 9 percent connected, with 35 of 374 properties done and phase three construction under contract for a fall groundbreaking. Members also debated whether Orleans needs a paid coordinator for its 60-plus-volunteer estuary sampling program ahead of this fall's budget cycle.
