Sandwich Pushes Septic Maintenance as Police Department Earns Reaccreditation

SANDWICH — The Town of Sandwich this week reminded homeowners with septic systems to keep up routine maintenance to protect local water resources, one of several Town Hall items that also included word that the Sandwich Police Department has again earned re-accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission and that the town's updated Charter is now finalized.

In a public advisory posted July 14, the town said a properly maintained septic system plays an important role in protecting both individual homes and the environment, and it encouraged residents with septic systems to follow routine upkeep practices to safeguard Sandwich's water resources.

The town also highlighted that the Sandwich Police Department has once again earned re-accreditation from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission, a credential the department renews periodically. Separately, Sandwich said its updated Town Charter is now finalized following approval by the Massachusetts Legislature and the governor; the document is posted on the town's website for residents to review.

The Sandwich Summer Craft Festival runs Saturday, July 18, through Sunday, July 19. On Monday, July 20, resurfacing work is scheduled to begin on Highfield Drive, with crews working 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and periodic delays expected for residents accessing homes in the area; the Sandwich Bikeways and Pedestrian Committee also meets that day. The Commission on Disability Subcommittee is scheduled to meet Tuesday, July 21.
