Sandwich Sets July 20 Start for Highfield Drive Repaving

SANDWICH — The Department of Public Works will begin resurfacing Highfield Drive on Monday, July 20, part of a stretch of summer road work that comes as the town also renews a seasonal push to slow drivers down ahead of a busy stretch of America 250 events.

TOWN HALL The DPW said resurfacing on Highfield Drive is set to begin Monday, work running 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, with access to nearby homes periodically delayed during the workday and full access restored each evening. The project follows resurfacing already underway on Christopher Hollow Road and surrounding roadways, which started July 8 under the same weekday work-hour schedule.

Separately, the DPW and Sandwich Police Department are again promoting the "Slow Down – In Our Town" public safety campaign as the town prepares for a week of America 250 celebrations and the height of the summer visitor season, urging drivers to ease up in residential areas and around town events.

COMING UP The Sandwich Summer Craft Festival runs Saturday and Sunday, July 18-19. The Bikeways and Pedestrian Committee meets Monday, July 20, followed by a Commission on Disability subcommittee meeting Tuesday, July 21. MassDOT is hosting a public meeting Thursday, July 23, on the Sagamore Bridge replacement project. The same day, the Sandwich Town Band opens its summer concert series, with a second concert set for July 30. The Sandwich Chamber of Commerce hosts the first Mill Creek Rubber Ducky Derby on Friday, July 24.
