Snow Library Trustees Approve Minutes, Weigh Community Refrigerator Proposal

ORLEANS — March 3, 2026 — Snow Library trustees heard proposals for a community refrigerator and a town-wide logo rollout at their March 3 meeting, while approving February minutes in the only formal vote of the session. Library Director Tavi Prugno said the Orleans Health Department, working from a Barnstable County grant, has identified Snow Library's front vestibule as a preferred site for a shared community refrigerator aimed at reducing food insecurity, with 44 Main Street having been ruled out for lack of a suitable space; trustees raised concerns about fire egress, emergency panel access, and electrical safety before any installation can proceed. Prugno also reported attending a town presentation by Public Information Officer Amanda Converse on a new Orleans municipal logo — already appearing on town social media — and said Converse had agreed to present to the trustees, possibly in April, to address questions including whether the Friends of Snow Library, a separate 501(c)3, would be expected to adopt it. Friends representative Gerry Grenier reported year-to-date net income of approximately $64,900, about $16,800 above last year, and announced a proposed twice-yearly printed newsletter to be produced jointly with the library. Technical Services Librarian Bob Burns told trustees that roughly 40 percent of the library's 70 to 100 weekly incoming items require a full original cataloging record — a proportion he attributed partly to Snow Library frequently being first to receive large-print editions — and warned of short-term processing delays as the library migrates from the bankrupt Baker and Taylor to Ingram Content Group. The February minutes were approved 5-0-1, with Trustee Lindsey Goodman abstaining.
