Truro Assessors Release Preliminary FY27 Property Values
TRURO — Truro's Board of Assessors has released preliminary fiscal year 2027 property values as part of the town's state-mandated revaluation, one of several town hall actions this week alongside a looming application deadline for a new land-use advisory panel and a public hearing on the Select Board's coming-year goals.

The Board of Assessors said it is completing the FY27 certification required under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 40, Section 56, to achieve full and fair cash value townwide. The recertification, known as a revaluation, is required by statute every five years. Separately, Barnstable County is circulating information on a proposed Charter Study Commission that will appear as a ballot question on the November 2026 state election ballot, including candidate requirements and filing deadlines for residents. Town Moderator also announced the appointment of Cass Johnson and Clint Kershaw to three-year terms on the Finance Committee, expiring June 30, 2029.
Two other items carry near-term deadlines. The Walsh Property Advisory Committee is seeking candidates for five voting seats and two alternate positions with staggered terms; applications are due July 22 at 4 p.m., with a revised committee charge expected to post in mid-July. The town is also updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan, which will set priorities for the next decade — residents can share ideas by emailing pio@truro-ma.gov, visiting a community forum, or going to www.truro-ma.gov/osrplan. The Select Board will hold a hybrid public hearing July 28 at 5 p.m. to set its fiscal 2027 goals and objectives and review the current year's accomplishments.

The Truro Public Library has opened its Anne H. Brock Room to a new exhibit from The Truro Group, and the Friends of the Truro Library are backing "Plant a Seed, Read," a summer reading initiative for young patrons. Further out, an August 1 "A Different Drummer" craft fair is on the town's community calendar, according to a listing circulating this week.

Truro's Board of Registrars and Energy Committee both meet Monday, July 20, the latter remotely. At the library, Mahjong and the Children's Community Garden Group meet Tuesday, July 21, alongside a talk on "Prohibition on Cape Cod" with Don Wilding. Wednesday, July 22, brings the Stay Strong Cancer Support Group, a "Robert the Guitar Guy" performance, and the Food for Kids program — the same day applications close for the Walsh Property Advisory Committee.
