Truro closes Beach Point Landing to swimming over bacteria levels
TRURO — Beach Point Landing was closed to swimming after bacteria levels exceeded state health standards, the most pressing item in a week that otherwise saw Truro fill committee vacancies, kick off a fiscal 2027 budget process and open recruitment for a group overseeing the town's Walsh Property.
TOWN HALL Beach Point Landing is closed to swimming due to elevated bacteria levels, the town announced, with no timeline given for when testing might clear the water for reuse. Separately, the Board of Health's July 21 meeting has been canceled.
Town Moderator announced the appointment of Cass Johnson and Clint Kershaw to the Finance Committee for three-year terms expiring June 30, 2029. The Walsh Property Advisory Committee is seeking candidates for five voting seats and two alternate positions with staggered terms; applications are due July 22 at 4 p.m., and a revised committee charge is expected to be posted in mid-July.
The Select Board will hold a hybrid public hearing July 28 at 5 p.m. to set its fiscal 2027 goals and objectives and review the current year's accomplishments. The Board of Assessors said preliminary fiscal 2027 property values are now available as part of the town's statutorily required five-year revaluation and recertification under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 40, Section 56. The town is also updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan, and residents can weigh in at a community forum or by emailing pio@truro-ma.gov. Barnstable County is also sharing information on a proposed Charter Study Commission that will appear as a ballot question on the November 2026 state election ballot.
COMMUNITY & ARTS The Truro Public Library's StoryWalk®, "Poo-Dunit? A Forest Floor Mystery," continues along its outdoor trail through Friday. The library is also hosting a talk on Prohibition-era Cape Cod with historian Don Wilding on July 21, and a performance from Robert the Guitar Guy on July 22. In the Anne H. Brock Room, the library is displaying new artwork from the Truro Group, and its "Plant a Seed, Read" program continues with support from the Friends of the Truro Library.
